Optimism is Brewing for current space companies, so Matty B decided it was time to spread the good news instead of the bad…because let’s face it. We could use some good news right now.
On May 30th 2020, the National Aeronautical and Space Administration partnered with SpaceX to create several thrilling achievements in space travel and exploration. They created the first autonomous launch, first launch with full abort capabilities for the former military test pilots-turned astronauts, first command module with iPad-like touchscreens, new suits (ohh the suits), first manned mission in which the rocket was safely returned to earth, and of course, the first launch in which NASA partnered with a private company to put its astronauts in space.
Today, The United States of America faces many challenges, and, as we have in the past; we will overcome any obstacles in the way of our shared benevolent future.
Americans work and learn together at an amazing rate and with results; when we share a common goal set forth by a powerful leader and maintained by heroes: exploring the frontier of space. President Kennedy set forth the highly ambitious goal of putting a man on the moon by the end of the 1960’s because in doing so, we, as Americans would unite under a common cause. Just as we had many social and economic divisions at the time. The push for space exploration and dominance would motivate young people to learn science, new technologies, engineering, and math. The push for space had alternate motives, however. Along with the potential for a highly educated population, the “space race” with the Soviet Union was about defensive and offensive military capabilities, national unity, and communications.
Optimism Brewing in China
Today’s space race with China is no different. We are a divided nation, rife with political and social discord. Have a youth population with too many liberal arts degrees and not enough STEM degrees. We allow China to steal intellectual information and use it against us. At least we did. Now, with President Trump leading us into a new era of space exploration and travel, we have the ambitious goal of putting more of mankind’s footprints on the lunar surface by 2024. American Footprints. We have a now proven partnership between NASA and SpaceX. After the moon is colonized with a permanent moon base in the late 2020’s, we will send more Americans to Mars by the end of the 2030’s.
We should be excited and proud for our country regardless of our differences.
If we can make history rhyme and pull together for a common goal, if we can beat China to the moon the way we beat the Soviets, maybe we can unite and find a time for unity and optimism in this exceptional country in which we live. We share a common history, we should work to share a common future too.
