Healthcare Update for no reason
If you’ve listened to my podcast (or just me) for any length of time you know what I think of our current healthcare system. I’m not going to explain it here, if you want that go here: https://open.spotify.com/episode/0L2oqHn31NXG1ybKDhj3Ey…
ANYWHO, if you’re self employed like me that means you have to pay for insurance all by yourself (because you’re the employer obvi). I hate the idea of being forced to buy insurance in any industry, but if i’m going to I want it to cover something I can actually use. Like phone insurance when you actually lose your phone or crack the screen. These things happen all the time so it makes sense to me.
Flash forward to now and I think I finally found a winner in health insurance. Here were my must haves:
1. Must allow routine bloodwork for labs like metabolic, hormone, metals, vitamins. (If you don’t know why I want it, you need to look into it especially if you’re younger (20 and up)
2. Wellness Checkups (like meeting with a psychiatrist) – Only reason I care about that is because I enjoy talking to psychiatrists not for myself though usually. lol
I will actually use these things so if they provide it, I can get my money‘s worth and then I don’t have as much of a qualm putting money into something I’ll likely never use. Why, you ask? Because if I actually have a life threatening illness or disease, I’ll be going out of the country and seeking more traditional, holistic approaches and also using things that may not be approved by the FDA. CRAZY I know.
And I found it! These guys are local (like literally in Fort Worth) and you can actually talk to someone that ends up being your point of contact for all things related to your health insurance. Need to know where an in-network doctor is cause you broke a leg skiing? Give your agent a text or call right there on the spot he’ll send you the local list. The insurance company is United Healthcare, so basically they’re just agents helping you out to get the plan you need, etc.
